What to wear on Valentine’s Day that’s sustainable AND cute
With February 14th just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to plan your Valentine’s Day outfit and celebrate the day of love in style. This post is all about what to wear for Valentine’s Day in 2024.
Valentine’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate love. One way to make the day memorable is to dress to impress orrr to feel good about yourself.
There are so many choices out there, so it can be a little overwhelming, especially when trying to dress more sustainably. But in this post, I have put together some beautiful outfit ideas for much-needed inspo!
It’s a common tradition to incorporate red into your Valentine’s Day ensemble, as it symbolises love and passion. However, you do not have to limit yourself to this shade if it doesn’t suit you. There are many ways to express your style and personality through your clothing, and ultimately, the most crucial aspect is that you feel confident and comfortable in your outfit.

What do people wear for Valentine’s Day?
People often choose their Valentine’s Day outfits based on the nature of their plans and personal style preferences. So I would suggest finding out your plans and going from there.
My first thought would be to try and find something you already own. There is no need to buy a brand new dress every year for Valentine’s Day unless you want to, and it is something you think you will wear again and again.
Another option, and one of my favourites, is renting your outfit. This way, you can wear designer clothing you can’t afford to purchase and then send it back when you finish!

I usually stay in and have dinner at home as I have two children, and getting out is difficult. So, my outfit choice is more casual with a hint of dressiness because I still like to make some effort for my husband.

What colour do you wear for Valentine’s Day?
The two most popular colours for Valentine’s Day are red and pink, but in all honesty, if you want to wear any other colour, go for it!
Some people say that if you wear black on Valentine’s Day, you are mourning a relationship, but I wouldn’t take any notice of that. I have worn black on Valentine’s Day before because I liked the dress.
However, I do not follow the rules regarding fashion and colours.
Sustainability and Ethical Fashion Choices
As you plan your Valentine’s Day outfit, consider incorporating sustainable and ethical fashion choices to make a positive impact on the environment. Brands focusing on eco-friendly practices and fair working conditions are consciously trying to support a more sustainable future.
When selecting your Valentine’s Day outfit, keep the following tips in mind:
- Fabrics: Opt for natural, organic, or recycled materials, such as organic cotton, hemp, linen, recycled polyester, or Tencel.
- Quality: Choose well-made, long-lasting garments that won’t wear out after a few uses. This reduces the overall demand for new clothing and the subsequent environmental impact of production.
- Locally-made: Supporting local designers and manufacturers can help reduce the carbon footprint of shipping products over long distances.
I absolutely adoreย Molby the Label,ย a slow fashion brand based in the UK. This brand offers a handful of patterns for its handmade pieces, and I honestly love them all. Their pieces are different and affordable, and they are sure to stand out from the crowd.

Another brand worth exploring isย Mayamiko. This responsible womenswear brand is based on sustainability and ethics. It offers beautiful, hand-crafted pieces made from organic and natural materials.
Another great option if you are looking for something a little more classic isย Mother of Pearl. This UK-based brand offers contemporary, responsible womenswear and celebrates individuality, authenticity, and sustainability.
Remember your accessories. Sustainable and ethical jewellery, shoes, and bags can further demonstrate your commitment to conscious fashion choices. Imagine some pink platform heels or some hot pink accessories! Argh, so cute.
Brands likeย Vejaย andย Matt & Natย offer eco-friendly footwear, bag options, and jewellery from responsible brands likeย Monica Vinader, whichย can be stunning additions to your sustainable Valentine’s Day ensemble.

By incorporating these sustainable and ethical fashion choices into your Valentine’s Day wardrobe, you are looking good and doing good for the planet and the people who make the clothes you wear.

Romantic Dinner Date
You can never go wrong with a classic look for a dinner date. A deep red shade is equal parts romantic and stylish, making it a surefire way to turn heads. Puff sleeves are so popular now, and I am here for them!ย
I also love a strappy number. I am from Manchester, and if you have ever visited, you will know we don’t consider the weather when it comes to nighttime fashion choices. A strappy dress is suitable for summerย and winter!ย
First Date
I reckon for a first date, the best choice is a stylish yet versatile outfit that offers comfort, such as a fashionable blouse paired with jeans or a cute dress. I would also wear comfortable but chic footwear in case you do any walking.
Cozy Night In
Ok, so a cosy night in is a tricky one. Do you still want to impress with a comfy yet cute outfit? If so, cosy sweaters, leggings, or a sweater dress could be the answer. But if you aren’t bothered and you’re one of those people who think it’s just another day, chill, and your nice, reliable pyjama set with a cute print will be perfect.
Night with the girls
For those embracing the Galentine’s Day spirit, a cosy sweater dress or a stylish mini skirt with knee boots can be a perfect choice.
Celebrate your best friendships in comfort, whether you’re sharing your favourite snacks or watching your favourite rom-com. But if you choose to go out and impress, a short red dress has to be the winner for Valentine’s Day 2024.
Valentine’s Parties
A Valentine’s party is perfect for experimenting with your wardrobe and dressing up more vibrantly. Aim for festive and flirty outfits while still maintaining a level of sophistication.
You can try bold colours, flowy dresses, or jumpsuits that make a statement.
One of my favourite looks is the short red dress I mentioned above.
Below, I am wearing this pink mini dress from Cult Gaia that I rented fromย Hurr. I love pink and red together, which I know is sometimes frowned upon, but I don’t careโit looks great!

Casual Outing or Daytime Activity
A relaxed look could be your go-to choice if you’re leaning towards a more casual vibe, such as a romantic stroll or a cosy visit to a cafรฉ.
A cute graphic tee paired with leather pants or jeans is a great option. But if it were me, I would wear some comfy jeans and a cute pink sweater and add a bold red lip to complete the look!
No matter your relationship status or Valentine’s Day plans, the key is to have fun with your outfit choice. So go ahead, pick your perfect Valentine’s Day outfit, and get ready to enjoy the most romantic day of the year!
