I love this time of year. I’m sad Christmas is over, but the Valentine’s Day season is upon us! February is my birthday month, so it is extra special for me.

Galentine’s Day could be the perfect time to celebrate if you are looking for a fun and unique way to celebrate with your best friends

If you haven’t heard of Galentine’s Day, this unofficial holiday was made famous by the beloved Leslie Knope ofย Parks and Recreationย and is usually celebrated on February 13th.ย

Whether you’re single or in a relationship, Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate the amazing friendships in your life and to go the extra mile and show how much you love them. And what better way to do that than your own Galentine’s Day party?

I love planning and organising events, so I have compiled a list of a few things to remember when planning your sustainable Galentine’s Day party.

How to plan a Galentine’s Day party

Choosing a Date

The first thing to do is choose a date for your Galentine’s Day party. Remember that it doesn’t have to be on February 13th or 14th, and hosting your party a few days before or after Valentine’s Day can be a good idea, as many people may have plans for Valentine’s Day.

Sending Invitations

Sending out invitations is a great way to let your guests know about your Galentine’s Day party.

You can create invites usingย seed paper, e-invitations or send a quick message in the group chat.ย

Please include all the necessary details, such as the date, time, location, and special instructions.

Deciding the Dress Code

Deciding on a dress code for your Galentine’s Day party can be fun to get everyone involved. Consider asking your guests to dress up in their favourite pink or red outfits, or challenge everyone to buy something fun for each other secondhand from the Charity shop.

Unless you have decided on a slumber party, it will be pyjamas all around! Remember, you don’t need matching pyjamas; wearing what you already own is the most sustainable thing you can wear.

How can you make your Galentine’s Day celebration memorable?

Decorations

When it comes to Galentine’s Day decorations, I love a pink colour scheme. Pink decor is my favourite, but red is a great choice, too. If you’re not into the traditional pink and red, you could choose a white and gold theme.

Biodegradable balloons, paper lanterns, and eco-friendlyย confettiย can add tons of cheer to your party space. You can also create a festive atmosphere by hanging a balloon garland, flower garlands or string lights.ย

Here are some images for some balloon inspo!

Any disposable tableware you would usually buy, swap them out for reusable options. Try local charity shops for glassware or DIY candle jars for an upcycled tablescape!

Fresh flowers will elevate your Galentine’s decor. A vase filled with roses or peonies can add a touch of elegance to your party.

What food and drinks are perfect for a Galentine’s Day gathering?

Festive Food

When planning the menu for your Galentine’s Day party, it’s essential to consider your guests’ dietary restrictions and preferences.

A brunch-themed menu with options like waffles or pancakes is always a good idea. Heart-shaped food, such as heart-shaped pizza and heart-shaped cake, is also a great option.

To keep up with the eco-friendly theme, make the food yourself and opt for vegetarian options, as meat tends to have a larger carbon footprint.

You could organise a bake-off and ask guests to bring their favourite homemade sweet treats. Who doesn’t love friendly competition?

Private chefs are an excellent opportunity for a bit of luxury, depending on your budget. I have attended a few events where a private chef cooked for me and my family, and it really did make the party extra special.

Consider a charcuterie board with various cheeses, crackers, fruits, and nuts for a more sophisticated menu.

If you’re feeling adventurous, organise a cheese or chocolate fondue night with various dipping options, such as bread, strawberries, marshmallows, and cookies.

Your guests will love dipping their treats into warm, melted chocolate or cheese.

If you have leftover food, compost it or give it to your friends to take home to reduce waste.

Here are some great options:

Festive Drinks

A great Galentine’s Day party is only complete with some festive drinks.

Champagne and some good bottles of vino are always a good choice, but you could also serve tea and hot chocolate for a cosy night and a more intimate, alcohol-free vibe.

I love a signature cocktail or mocktail for the perfect night of fun. Use edible decor for the drinks, like fruit, rather than single-use umbrellas, etc.

Try to avoid using straws, but if you feel they are needed, paper or stainless steel ones are best.

What activities can you plan for a fun Galentine’s Day party?

You can plan many activities for a fun Galentine’s Day party. You could have a movie night and watch some of your favourite romantic comedies or chick flicks.

Alternatively, you could plan a craft night and make DIY Valentine’s Day cards or friendship bracelets. A fun activity I love is hosting a game night with board or card games.

Activities and Games

Wine Tasting

Arrange a wine-tasting session with a variety of wines. Pair the wines with cheese and other snacks.

Pottery Classes

Go back in time (or at least I would) and enjoy a night of throwing at the local pottery studio.

cooking classes

Book a cooking class with all your best girlfriends to learn how to create the most wonderful homemade food.

DIY Cocktail Bar

Set up a DIY cocktail bar with various spirits, mixers, and garnishes. Provide recipe cards for inspiration.

Trivia Night

Organise a trivia night with questions tailored to the group’s interests. Offer small eco-friendly prizes for the winning team.

Paint and Sip

Organise a painting instructor to guide the group through creating their works of art while enjoying wine.

Karaoke or Sing-Along

Rent a karaoke machine or hire a karaoke host for a night of singing and entertainment. Put on some old school music and enjoy!

Book Club Gathering

Choose a book the group can read before the party and have a book club discussion.

Dance Party or Dance Class

Arrange for a dance instructor or set up a dance floor with a playlist of favourite tunes.

Movie Night

Project a favourite movie onto a screen and provide comfy seating.

Jewellery-Making Workshop

Hire a jewellery-making instructor or provide supplies for guests to create their own pieces.

Pyjama Party Ideas

Encourage guests to wear comfy pyjamas and bring their favourite blankets and pillows. You could even set up a cosy fort with fairy lights and blankets to create the ultimate sleepover atmosphere and a movie marathon to top it off!!

For snacks, you could make homemade popcorn and offer a variety of toppings for your guests.

Some popular options include melted butter, grated cheese, and salted caramel.

How can you incorporate self-care into your Galentine’s Day festivities?

Spa Day at Home

Who says you must go to a fancy spa to relax and unwind? You can create your spa day at home!

Set up a DIY nail station for manis and pedis and whip up homemade face masks

I love playing soothing music and lighting candles to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Another option I love is to plan a yoga or meditation session and a spiritual circle where we can gather to connect to ourselves. Here, you can participate in tarot readings, pick out inner compass cards, and discuss growth and goals.

Don’t forget to capture the Moments.

Your Galentine’s Day party is a special occasion you’ll want to remember for years. So, don’t forget to capture this special day!

Instagrammable Moments

In today’s social media-driven world, your friends might want to capture Instagrammable moments. I suggest creating a photo booth area with fun props and decorations and encouraging your guests to snap some photos.

Setting up a Photo Booth

A DIY photo booth is a fun and easy way to add entertainment to your Galentine’s Day party. You can create a simple backdrop using colourful fabric. If you don’t have any suitable fabric at home, source it from charity shops and thrift stores.

I usually add props at home, like hats and glasses, to make your photos even more fun.

Polaroid Memories

If you have a camera, set up a Polaroid station for a more nostalgic touch. I love myย Instax miniย in blue!

Your guests can take photos and hang them on a clothesline or pin them to a corkboard. This creates a physical memory board you can keep and look back on for years.

You can also give your guests a Polaroid photo as a party favour.

Galentine’s Day Ideas: Gifts

Secret Cupid

One fun way to exchange gifts is to play Secret Cupid. (Valentine’s Day’s answer to Secret Santa) In this game, everyone draws a name from a hat and then buys a secondhand or DIY gift for the person they drew.

Personalised Gift Bags

Another fun idea is to create personalised goodie bags for each friend. You can fill them with small eco-friendly gifts you know everyone will love, such as their favourite sweets, a DIY body butter or coffee scrub, or a scented candle. To make the gift extra special, include a personalised note or card.

Galentineโ€™s Day is all about celebrating the best day of the year with your closest gal pals in a way that feels uniquely you. It might be cosying up for coffee dates, sharing heartfelt laughs with a quality group of friends time, or indulging in playful tea-spilling. So, grab your besties, plan the ultimate gathering, and make this Galentineโ€™s Day one for the memory books.
