Mother’s Day is coming up, and it is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the love and dedication of Moms.
If you’re reading this, you are probably a Mom raising young kids like me. This is such a special day for Mothers, and it can be filled with activities that allow us to bond with our little ones while still enjoying a bit of pampering and fun.
I wanted to write this post because, in my opinion, Mother’s Day is even more special when the kids are little. We are in the thick of raising these little humans, so we should celebrate and enjoy some of these activities. I am also a Mom of 2 boys, so I will include ideas for the boys, too.
12 Fun Mother’s Day Activities for Moms with Young Kids
1. Create Mother’s Day Crafts Together
Getting creative with Mother’s Day crafts that are simple and fun for little hands is one way I love celebrating Mother’s Day. My son is obsessed with crafting, so this one is always a winner for me!
You could make personalized Mother’s Day cards using bright colors and handprints, or create keepsakes like decorated tote bags or photo frames. You will have a heartfelt gift you will cherish, and the process is a fun project that keeps the kids engaged.
My son would choose crafts over anything, but for moms with boys who don’t love crafting as much, consider creating crafts that involve their interests, like decorating superhero-themed cards, making a paper aeroplane bouquet, or designing a rocket ship from recyclable materials. These crafts allow boys to channel their energy and creativity while creating something special for you for Mother’s Day.
2. Have a Picnic at the Local Park
Another great Mother’s Day activity is to pack up your favorite foods and head to a local park for a relaxing picnic. Let the kids help by packing their favorite treats and see if they can pick out a blanket in your favorite color.
This is a great way to enjoy fresh air while spending quality time together. Don’t forget to include outdoor activities like a scavenger hunt or bubbles to keep the kids entertained!
For boys who love adventure, bring along a kite to fly, a ball for a quick game, or even some toy dinosaurs for imaginative play. These little touches will make the outing extra fun. For my boys, I bring a football everywhere we go, which keeps them entertained for hours!
3. Host a Mother’s Day Brunch at Home
Young kids can be part of creating a special Mother’s Day brunch at home. From helping stir pancake batter to arranging fruit on a plate, these little contributions make the day extra special for you, Mom.
Add a touch of fun by playing your favorite songs in the background or setting the table with a sweet, special message from the kids. This is a beautiful way to start the day with love.
My boys love creating a “menu” for brunch or pretending to be the chef or waiter, which adds an imaginative twist to the celebrations.
4. Go on a Family Adventure
Plan a short outing that’s exciting for both you and the kids. Visit a local botanical garden, stroll around the neighbourhood, or explore a kid-friendly flea market.
These small adventures are a fun day for everyone, allowing us Moms to enjoy the great outdoors while making memories with our loved ones. This activity really is for the whole family!
5. Go on a Bike Ride or Nature Walk
One of my favourite things is riding a bike in the forest with my kids. You can organise a bike ride or take a nature walk with the kids for an active celebration.
Boys and girls will love exploring trails, spotting birds, or collecting interesting leaves and rocks. I always print off a scavenger hunt printable, and the kids love trying to spot everything on the list during the walk. This is a perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors while spending quality time together.
6. Bake Sweet Treats Together
If you have a sweet tooth, a baking session can be a fun way to celebrate. Pick a simple recipe like cookies or cupcakes, and let the kids participate by stirring, sprinkling, or decorating. The result is delicious and a reminder of the joy of spending time together.
My boys enjoy making “monster” cookies with colourful candies or using cookie cutters shaped like dinosaurs or animals. This adds a playful element to the activity, keeping them excited and involved.
7. Have a Movie and Crafting Night
For a cosy celebration, combine two fun activities: crafting and a family movie night. Start with simple Mother’s Day activities, like making hand-painted cards or DIY jewelry. Afterwards, snuggle up with the kids and watch your favourite family-friendly movie while enjoying popcorn and other treats.
For moms with boys, choose a movie they’ll enjoy too. My kids love animated superhero films. You could also let them pick a crafting project that reflects their favourite characters or themes to keep the excitement going.
8. Play a Family Game Together
Organize a few fun Mother’s Day games that involve the kids. Simple games like “Mother’s Day Bingo,” “Guess Mom’s Favorite Things,” or classic board games are great for young families. This is a fun way to unite everyone and enjoy some lighthearted moments.
Some of our best family games are:
Uno or Uno Extreme (Remember the batteries)
9. Take a Walk Down Memory Lane
Sit down with the kids and look through old photos of you. Share stories about your childhood, your favourite childhood films, or even your favourite moments as a mom. This activity not only bonds the family but also gives the kids a deeper appreciation for her journey.
10. Organize a Mini Spa Day
Even with young kids, moms can enjoy a relaxing spa day at home. Let the little ones help by giving you a “manicure” or helping to apply a face mask (with supervision, of course).
Light some candles, play calming music, and let yourself feel pampered for an hour or two. This is an excellent idea for making her feel special while keeping the kids involved.
Even though girls typically enjoy a spa day activity, my kids love this activity. If you aren’t sure if yours would feel the same, make it fun by letting them create a “spa menu” or pretend to be spa attendants. They can also enjoy a mini “spa treatment” themselves, like a warm towel or a little hand massage.
11. Plan a Fun Mother’s Day Photo Shoot
Set up a DIY photo shoot at home or a local park to capture this special day. Use props, dress the kids in their best outfits, and encourage everyone to pose naturally for candid shots.
This is a perfect time to make memories that Moms can reflect on for years.
12. Build a Family Tree Together
Spend time creating a family tree with your kids. They can help by drawing branches, coloring leaves, or pasting family photos onto the tree.
This activity is fun and teaches them about their family history and roots. It’s a great idea for bonding while also adding a meaningful touch to the day.

Mother’s Day with young kids doesn’t have to be complicated to be special. Remember to focus on Mother’s Day activities that celebrate you while including your little ones.
Whether crafting, baking, or enjoying the great outdoors, these unique Mother’s Day activities are all about strengthening the bond between you and your kids.
