For the longest time, I have used 3 types of laundry products. Washing tablets, softener and stain remover. Since learning more about the environment and how the way we wash our clothing affects the water systems etc. I have reduced the temperature and time of my washing cycle.

Not only that I have been using the laundry ecoegg (fresh linen) for over 2 months. Reducing the number of plastic bottles I now use. I purchased mine from Amazon, but you can also buy them from a number of the larger supermarkets.

This review is about the ecoegg laundry egg in fresh linen. Here’s what I thought…

The Brand

Ecoegg is a UK-based company that produces a range of eco-friendly laundry products. Ecoegg was founded in 2008 with the goal of providing environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional laundry detergents and fabric softeners. They are passionate about producing innovative products that help to reduce single-use plastic that is kinder to the environment.

They have a range of products including their ‘hero product’ is the ecoegg laundry egg which is a complete replacement for laundry detergent and fabric conditioner. The laundry egg contains mineral pellets that lift away dirt without fading colours or leaving chemical residue on clothing.

There is an original range of laundry egg scents which include fresh linen and spring blossom. And some new scents are now available including fragrance-free, tropical breeze and orange blossom.

Ecoegg also produces a range of other eco-friendly laundry products including dryer eggs, refill fragrance sticks & eco-friendly kitchen rolls which I am yet to try.

How is Ecoegg Sustainable?

The eco laundry egg is designed to be used for up to 70 washes before needing to be refilled with pellets, making it a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional laundry detergents. If you were to switch to an eco laundry egg you would help eliminate up to 40 single-use plastic detergent and fabric conditioner bottles each year.

All of their products are designed to be environmentally including friendly, with a focus on reducing single-use plastic and packaging.

They also have a ‘climate-positive workforce’ and offset their employees’ carbon emissions by planting trees with Play It Green. You can check out their newly formed Woodland Forest Garden here

How to Use the Product

The first step to using an eco laundry egg is to open the box containing the product. This may seem obvious, but it’s important to take the time to carefully read the instructions and familiarise yourself with the product before using it. The box should contain the egg-shaped laundry device, as well as any necessary accessories, such as a stain remover bar or extra pellets.

Once you’ve opened the box, take a moment to inspect the laundry egg and ensure that it’s in good condition. If there are any defects or damage, you may need to contact the manufacturer for a replacement. It’s also a good idea to keep the box and instructions handy, in case you need to refer back to them later.

twist the eco egg to open

The next step is to open up the egg and fill it with the pellets provided.

To do this, hold the egg in one hand and use the other hand to twist it open in half. The egg should easily come apart, revealing a space for the pellets.

open the eco egg

Inside, you will find two packets of white pellets and one packet of black pellets. The white pellets are the main cleaning agents, while the grey pellets act as stain removers.

Carefully pour the pellets into the egg, making sure not to spill any.

pop the pellets into the ecoegg

It’s important to note that the amount of pellets you use will depend on the size of your laundry load. As a general rule of thumb, use two packets of white pellets and one packet of black pellets for a load of up to 3kg. For larger loads, you may need to use additional pellets.

close the ecoegg until it clicks

The next step is to close it back up. To do this, simply align the two halves of the egg and twist them together until you hear a satisfying click. This ensures that the egg is securely closed and the pellets won’t spill out during the washing process.

Now that the egg is closed and ready to use, it’s time to place it in the washing machine on top of your clothes and start the cycle. The eco laundry egg can be used with cold and hot water and is suitable for all types of washing machines.

My Thoughts

My overall impression

I really like this product and I like the way it looks. To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect but I have to say, I do enjoy using the ecoegg (laundry egg).

Effectiveness

I found that overall, the clothes were clean but I did notice some stains still on certain items. For example, I have 2 kids so when they eat tomato sauce and drop it on a white t-shirt, it is a tricky stain to remove. The smell of the clothes was ok, they did smell clean but I prefer a much stronger smell to my clothes once they are washed.

Ease of use

The ecoegg is so easy to use. It was easy to fill up the egg with pellets, although you have to be careful they don’t drop all over the floor! I haven’t had any issues with this product.

Durability

I’ve been using this product for over 2 months and haven’t had to change the pellets yet! I also do a lot of washing as I have children so to be still using the same pellets is something I’m super happy with.

Cost-effectiveness

Compared to normal detergents it is 100% cheaper and definitely a cost-effective swap. I used to use 3 types of detergents and to be honest I do still add my old stain remover and a drop of softener into my wash cycle simply because I have messy kids and I want stronger-smelling clothes after a wash. But for me, 1/3 plastic bottles reduced is a great start.

Environmental impact

I love the fact the ecoegg helps me to reduce the single-use plastic in my home. I love trying new environmentally friendly products and feel good knowing I am trying to make a difference. Even if it is a slow process it is better than no change at all.

Would I Recommend Ecoegg?

Yes.

Overall, ecoegg seems to be committed to providing sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional laundry products. Their products are designed to be effective, cost-effective, and better for the environment.

This makes them a great choice for anyone looking to reduce their environmental impact while still keeping their clothes clean and fresh.

I am definitely going to continue to use this laundry egg in the future. But also need to try the other products as this may help with the strength of the scent of my washing.
