I don’t know about you, but I love natural decor for my home. I love creating things out of natural objects. Whether you’re decorating your coffee table, fireplace mantel, or front porch, using natural elements provides the perfect opportunity to bring the warmth and beauty of nature into our homes.ย
Natural decor elements like pine cones, fallen leaves, and twigs are sustainable and biodegradable. They don’t contribute to waste or pollution, making them an environmentally friendly choice. If you have a budget, which most of us do, these items can be found for free in your backyard or local area, reducing the need to purchase expensive decorations.
Simple Fall Decor on a Budget: The Best Pumpkin Centrepiece
How to decorate for autumn on a budget
When decorating on a budget, it is essential to use your imagination.
A great idea is to check out the thrift stores for any old mason jars, craft supplies or secondhand seasonal decor. A few simple ideas for your DIY fall decor projects are:
- Using mason jars to create delightful fall-themed centrepieces or candle holders. Fill them with pine cones, mini pumpkins, or cinnamon sticks, and place them on your coffee table, fireplace mantel, or front porch for a rustic look.
- The warm, spicy scent of cinnamon sticks is perfect for the fall season. Tie them together with twine and use them as fragrant decor accents. Hang them on your front door or place them in mason jars to create a cosy atmosphere.
- Incorporate natural elements from your surroundings, such as pine cones and small white pumpkins, to add a touch of nature to your decor. Pine cones can be used as table or mantel decorations, while colourful autumn leaves can be pressed between glass for a beautiful centrepiece.
- Make a DIY fall leaf garland by dipping your fallen leaves into beeswax and hanging them over your fireplace.
- My favourite is the floral pumpkin centrepiece, which can be aย fun activity for the whole family.
How to make a floral pumpkin centerpiece
Creating a floral pumpkin centrepiece is a beautiful way to incorporate natural decor into your fall decorations. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make the finished product:
Materials You’ll Need:
1. One medium-sized real pumpkin (white or orange are my favourites)
2. A vase or a small container to fit inside the pumpkin
3. Fresh flowers and greenery (fall-themed colours work best)
4. Scissors
5. A knife or pumpkin carving tools (if using a real pumpkin)
6. Optional: twine, ribbon, or decorative elements for embellishment
Instructions:
1. Carefully cut off the top of your real pumpkin.
2. Scoop out the seeds and pulp. You’ll want to create a hollow space to insert the vase or container.
3. I like to add some kitchen roll into the pumpkin to dry it out before I insert the vase.
4. Place the vase or small container inside the pumpkin.
5. Add water to the vase or container to hydrate the flowers. Check and refill the water as needed to ensure the flowers stay fresh.
6. Trim the stems of your chosen flowers and greenery to the desired length. Ensure they’re long enough to reach the vase or container inside the pumpkin.
7. Arrange the Flowers. Start by inserting the greenery around the edges of the pumpkin. This creates a base and adds volume. Then, arrange the larger focal flowers in the centre. Depending on your preference, you can create a symmetrical or asymmetrical design.
8. Optional Embellishments. You can add decorative elements like twine, ribbon, or small ornaments to enhance the centrepiece’s appearance.
9. Place your floral pumpkin centrepiece on your dining table or coffee table as a beautiful decoration for your fall festivities.
This DIY floral pumpkin centrepiece is a beautiful addition to your fall decor. Customise it with your favourite flowers and colours, and it will add a touch of natural elegance and warmth to your home.
