When I’m at home, I talk a lot about The Style Cycle blog and there is one issue that keeps popping up. I don’t really like having my photo taken although I am getting better at it. It sounds a bit weird as I update my Instagram with photos of myself in my sustainable outfits. But in reality, I am a person with a simple style and prefer clothing that is comfortable, practical, and easy to wear. Not only that, I’m a SAHM (stay-at-home mum) and usually wear leggings and hoodies so the nicer clothing choices I post are few and far between. Hence the lack of regular insta content.
After deciding that I wanted to create some ‘how to style preloved’ posts on the blog I needed to find a way to avoid having my photo taken. I absolutely love sustainable fashion and love the sustainable fashion community even more. So, after many conversations back and forth about deleting my Instagram (probs a bit dramatic), I was lying in bed and the thought came to me.
Why couldn’t I collect images from the other content creators that I love and follow? Curate them into styling posts for the blog and that way I can help promote other people’s style and content. And not have to pose for pictures myself. Brill!

The preloved community is a great source for finding unique and vintage clothing items, including oversized shirts. I have been sent many pictures of oversized shirt styles including wearing preloved and sustainable brands. So, thank you!
But I sadly couldn’t use them all. I have chosen my favourite ones that group together to give you the most diverse looks.

13 Ways to Style Oversized Shirts
Wear Your Oversized Shirt Open
The first look I have chosen is styled by Byelleven Vintage. She is wearing one of her own vintage reimagined shirts which is a hand-picked men’s tailored shirt. They have up-cycled this beautiful vintage oversized shirt with a premium embroidered logo in their signature Kelly green thread.
She has paired the open oversized shirt with a black bandeau bra, and a maxi skirt. Wearing a cap and sandals for a more casual and relaxed vibe.
You can create this look with an oversized shirt in any colour or pattern and leave it unbuttoned. Another option is to wear the oversized shirt over a simple t-shirt or tank top. For the accessories, you could add a simple necklace or a pair of earrings, and carry a tote or cross-body bag.
Oversized shirt with a T-shirt
I love this look styled by thethriftedthreds. She has chosen to style a denim oversized shirt with a graphic tee and black flared trousers to create a bold and edgy style statement look! Paired with some black Chuck Taylor All-Star Converse High Tops. Perfect for a music festival or a night out with friends.

Byelleven Vintage has added a jacket to her oversized shirt to create a trendy, layered and sophisticated vibe. A great option would be to add some heeled boots or pumps. Plus to finish off the outfit, add some statement earrings or a necklace and carry a structured handbag or clutch.
Beth from charityshop_outfitinspo has a more casual look for her oversized shirt style with a jacket. She has chosen a casual quilted jacket, white straight-legged white jeans and her high-top Converse.
The jacket fits well and adds some structure to the outfit, while her oversized shirt will create some movement and adds a touch of volume. Why not add some oversized statement sunglasses to finish off this casual comfortable look?

isoneville has chosen to style her oversized shirt as a dress which I absolutely adore. This oversized shirt as a dress gives me a stylish, trendy yet comfortable vibe. Remember though, to pull off this look, choose an oversized shirt that is long enough to be worn as a dress and has some structure to it.
You could pair the oversized shirt dress with over-the-knee boots or strappy sandals, depending on the season.
I would add a statement belt to cinch in the waist and create some definition, or maybe layer some necklaces for a more bohemian vibe.
The Half Tuck

She has paired it with some more structured white trousers and a statement belt and casual summer footwear. The Full Tuck
My final choice for styling your oversized shirt is with the full tuck. An oversized shirt with a full tuck can create a chic, polished and sophisticated vibe. Beth has added some white trainers to her white straight-legged trousers here for a more casual vibe and I love it!
